Pink the Park 2015
October has long been recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month. On Friday, October 2nd Mayor Joe Sinnott will host “Pink the Park” in Perry Square to serve as a reminder of the importance of education, early detection and advancement of treatments for breast cancer.

“We have held an event annually in Perry Square since 2008. It generates awareness about a disease that affects thousands of people in our community. Through our effort, we hope that local residents will be proactive with their health screening and seek treatment they may need,” said Mayor Sinnott.

The Sherwin Williams Company is partnering with the City of Erie Office of Economic and Community Development to provide “Home Work” paint training classes to City of Erie residents! Sherwin Williams and the City provided similar “Home Work” classes to the community in 2008 through 2014. The City targeted inner-city, unemployed or underemployed residents and prioritized housing authority applicants.

The Home Work Program provides in-the-classroom training, a one day Renovate, Repair and Paint (RR&P) certification training class, on-the-job painting experience, and resume and career building services. Students who complete the course receive a starter paint kit of tools from Sherwin Williams.

The City of Erie is currently in the process of developing its first ever Comprehensive City Plan. We began the process in late spring by convening a steering committee and a technical advisory committee to meet with our consultant, Mr. Charles Buki.  Since that time, Mr. Buki and his team has assembled an inventory of every residential property in the City by condition.

As part of our planning process we would like to present our data and analysis and discuss priorities and concerns as it relates to the development of the Comprehensive Plan.  We believe it is imperative to hear from the community as we move forward with a plan to stabilize and strengthen the City of Erie. Two meeting dates have been scheduled:

Wednesday, September 9th at 6:00pm
at Jefferson Elementary School, 230 E 38th St, Erie, PA 16504

Thursday, September 10th at 6:00pm
at East High School, 1001 Atkins Street, Erie, PA  16503.

Mr. Buki will lead our discussion and will be asking for your input on the future of Erie. We urge you to spread the word and encourage others to attend.

Kindly RSVP to sdesser@erie.pa.us  or call 870-1270 by Tuesday, September 8th so that we may provide adequate seating for all.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you on September 9th and 10th.
