| The personnel of the Erie Fire Department's
Electrical Division now have diverse responsibilities that deviate
considerably from their original job description. The city
electrician position is a civil service position technically
described as "Fire Box Inspector". The original responsibility of this division was the installation, trouble shooting, and maintenance of the city's Gamewell Fire Alarm system. Time moved on and traffic signals and their controllers were given to this division for maintenance, then came pedestrian signals at all controlled intersections, the city's decorative downtown street lighting, minor municipal building electrical installation and maintenance, and the installation and splicing of some of the city's fiber optic network. The Gamewell Fire Alarm System in the city is now longer in use. |
