The Burglary Unit is currently comprised of 1 Lieutenant (Supervisor), 1 Detective Sergeant, and 2 Detectives. This unit is responsible for all Burglaries, Larceny From Motor Vehicles, Larceny of Auto Accessories, Criminal Mischief/ Vandalisms and Bicycle Thefts . The Burglary Unit also tracks the selling and buying of precious metals and second hand goods with the cooperation of the business that deal in these type purchases.
Citizens and Victims will often times mistake a burglary for a robbery which are entirely two separate crimes.
Burglary is defined “ A person is guilty of burglary if he enters a building or occupied structure, or separately secure or occupied portion thereof, with intent to commit a crime therein, unless the premises are at the time open to the public or the actor is licensed or privileged to enter.”
